Send from your mail app
The settings any mail app needs to send as your alias through Mailyoto, with a step-by-step guide for each common app.
Pro or Max plan Updated 29 October 2026
When you finish, your mail app sends new email from your alias, such as amina@lunavera.com, to anyone.
Forwarding brings email for your alias into the inbox you already use. To send as that alias, your mail app sends through Mailyoto’s outgoing server.
Note
Only need to respond to people who emailed your alias? Reply from your alias works in any mail app with nothing to set up.
Settings for any mail app#
- Outgoing server (SMTP)
- smtp.mailyoto.com
- Port
- 587
- Security
- STARTTLS
- Authentication
- Password, which some apps call Normal password
- Username
- amina@lunavera.com
- Password
- The password from the Credential ready dialog
Some apps call STARTTLS “TLS”. If your network blocks port 587, port 465 with SSL/TLS also works.
Before you start
- A Pro or Max plan (see pricing).
- A verified domain with an alias that forwards to the inbox your app shows.
- The SPF record and both DKIM records from your domain’s DNS tab, added at your DNS provider (set up DKIM). The top of the Sending tab says Ready to send once these and a credential are in place.
- Recommended: a DMARC record. Large inbox providers expect one before they trust your email (set up DMARC).

Create a credential#
Open your domain, choose the Sending tab and open SMTP sending. Type a Username, then choose Create credential.
The Sending tab in the Mailyoto dashboard, with a new credential for amina@lunavera.com. Copy the password from the Credential ready dialog. The dashboard shows it only once. Create sending credentials covers the rest.

Add the alias to your app#
Your app needs your alias as a sender, sending through Mailyoto with the settings. Follow the guide for your app:
App Guide Gmail on the web Gmail Microsoft Outlook Outlook Mail on an iPhone or iPad Apple Mail (iPhone) Apple Mail on a Mac Apple Mail (Mac) Zoho Mail Zoho Mail Thunderbird, with a Gmail inbox or any other Thunderbird For another app, look for a setting called identity, alias, “send mail as” or “from address” that lets you choose an outgoing server. It asks for the same values, in a form like this one. An app that lets you add an address but not change its outgoing server can’t send as your alias.
An email app's outgoing server settings, filled in with Mailyoto's server, port 587, STARTTLS and the username amina@lunavera.com.
Check that it worked#
Write a message from your alias to someone at another provider, such as diego@harborpine.net, then reply to it from there to check both directions.
The message appears in Logs when you choose Sent under Type.
The recipient sees your alias as the sender.
To send as more addresses on the same domain with the same credential, see Send as several addresses.
Important
Gmail is removing “Send mail as” for addresses it doesn’t host. See What keeps working when Gmail ends Send mail as.
If sending fails#
The app says the username or password is wrong
The server responded 535 5.7.8 Authentication credentials invalid. Use the full address as the username, such as amina@lunavera.com. If the password is lost, reset it on the credential, then enter the new one in your app.
The app can't connect, or says encryption is required
Set port 587 with STARTTLS. A 538 5.7.11 Encryption required for requested authentication mechanism response means the app tried to sign in before turning on encryption. Port 465 with SSL/TLS also works.
The server refuses a From address on another domain
The From address is on another domain than the credential. A credential sends only as addresses on its own domain. See Addresses on another domain.
The server says it can't send mail for your domain
The server responded 550 5.7.1 We can't send mail for lunavera.com: we found no DKIM record for it. Mailyoto found no DKIM record for the domain. Add both DKIM records from the DNS tab, choose Check DNS, then send again.
The server refuses every message with a daily quota message
The server responded 452 4.2.2 This account has no sending left for today. Send again tomorrow. Your account reached the most it sends in one day, or your plan is Free, which includes no sending. On Pro and Max the limit resets at midnight UTC.
