What keeps working when Gmail ends Send mail as
Google is removing Send mail as for addresses it doesn't host. Forwarding and replies from your alias keep working in Gmail, and other mail apps can send as your alias.

Google is removing “Send mail as” for addresses it doesn’t host, in Gmail on the web and in its phone apps. Google’s announcement gives January 2027 for the removal, and says Gmail may refuse new setups before then. A Mailyoto alias is an address Google doesn’t host. The change covers aliases set up with our Gmail guide.
What changes for you#
- Email to your alias still arrives in Gmail.
- Gmail can no longer send as your alias through Mailyoto.
- Google Workspace keeps “Send mail as” only for addresses Google hosts. An alias forwarded by Mailyoto is not one of them.
What still works in Gmail#
Reply from your alias doesn’t use “Send mail as”. You press Reply on a forwarded email in Gmail, on the web or in the phone app, and your response is sent from your alias. It reaches only people who have emailed that alias. It needs a Pro or Max plan.
Where to send new email from#
Each of these keeps Gmail as your inbox, or replaces it, and sends as your alias through Mailyoto.
| Setup | Devices | Your inbox |
|---|---|---|
| Mail on an iPhone | iPhone and iPad | Stays in Gmail |
| Apple Mail on a Mac | Mac | Stays in Gmail |
| Zoho Mail | Web and phone apps | Moves to Zoho |
| Thunderbird | Windows, Mac and Linux | Stays in Gmail |
All of them use an SMTP credential, which needs a Pro or Max plan. For other apps, Send from your mail app lists the settings any app needs.
