Send as your alias from Apple Mail on Mac

Add your alias to Apple Mail on a Mac so it reads your inbox as before and sends as your alias through Mailyoto.

Pro or Max plan Updated 31 October 2026

When you finish, Apple Mail on your Mac shows the inbox your alias forwards to and sends as your alias, such as amina@lunavera.com.

You add the alias as its own account. Its incoming server is your inbox provider’s, and its outgoing server is Mailyoto’s.

Before you start

  • A credential on your domain and its password (create one).
  • Your inbox provider’s IMAP server name, and your username and password for it. For Gmail, the server is imap.gmail.com, and Google asks for an app password here, not your Google password.
  1. Add your alias as a new account#

In Mail, choose Mail → Add Account. Choose Other Mail Account, then Continue.

Apple Mail's Choose a Mail account provider list, with Other Mail Account outlined at the bottom.

Type the name, the Email Address and your inbox password from the settings, then choose Sign In. Mail can’t find servers for your alias. It asks for them next.

Apple Mail's Add a Mail account form with Name Amina, Email Address amina@lunavera.com and a password.
  2. Enter the servers#

Fill in the server form from the settings, then choose Sign In.

Apple Mail's server form: Email Address amina@lunavera.com, Username amina.kone@gmail.com, Account Type IMAP, Incoming Mail Server imap.gmail.com and Outgoing Mail Server smtp.mailyoto.com.
  3. Set the outgoing username and password#

Mail first tries your inbox username and password on the outgoing server. Choose Mail → Settings → Accounts, select the new account, then Server Settings. Under Outgoing Mail Account, choose Edit SMTP Server List and select the Mailyoto server. Fill in its outgoing username, password and connection settings from the settings, then choose OK.

Apple Mail's SMTP server list with a Mailyoto row for smtp.mailyoto.com used by the Lunavera account. Below it, Username amina@lunavera.com, Host Name smtp.mailyoto.com, port 587 and Use TLS/SSL ticked.

On port 587, Mail turns on TLS with STARTTLS.

Check that it worked#

Write a message from your alias to someone at another provider, such as diego@harborpine.net. The recipient sees your alias as the sender. The message appears in your domain’s Usage and logs tab when you choose Sent under Type.

To send as more addresses on the same domain, see Send as several addresses.

Mail rejects your Gmail password

Google doesn’t accept your Google password in Mail’s server form. In your Google Account, create an app password, which needs 2-Step Verification, and type it as the inbox password.

Mail asks again and again for the outgoing password

Mail is sending your inbox username and password to Mailyoto. In the SMTP server list, set the username to your full alias and the password to your credential’s password.

Mail says it can't connect to the outgoing server

Clear Automatically manage connection settings, then set port 587 with Use TLS/SSL on.
