An account email on your domain must forward elsewhere
Why an account email on a domain you forward creates a loop, and the setup that keeps your email arriving.
Updated 27 October 2026
That address needs to forward to an inbox on another domain. Otherwise email to it loops and never arrives.
Why it loops#
A domain you add starts with a catch-all that forwards to your account email.
Say Amina signs up as amina@lunavera.com, then adds lunavera.com.
The catch-all forwards to amina@lunavera.com, and once the MX records point to Mailyoto, that address’s email comes back
to Mailyoto, which forwards it again.
Mailyoto stops the loop and refuses the email.
Nothing reaches Amina, including Mailyoto’s own emails about her account.
The API refuses this setup when you add a domain with a destination on the same domain:
You cannot redirect emails to the same domain. Please use a different email address. See https://mailyoto.com/guides/sign-in-address-on-your-domain for more information.
Setting it up so email keeps arriving#
Do these before you change the MX records:
- On the domain’s Forwarding tab, open the Catch-all, if the domain has one, and set its destinations
to an inbox on another domain, such as
amina.kone@gmail.com. - Add an alias for your own address,
amina, with the same outside inbox as its destination, and choose Create alias. - Then change the MX records, as Add your domain describes.
Easier still: sign up with an address on another domain, such as amina.kone@gmail.com. You can change the account
email later on the Account page, in Profile.
With split delivery#
Under split delivery, your mailbox provider keeps the MX records and delivers to the mailboxes it hosts.
Email to amina@lunavera.com then stays with that provider and never passes through Mailyoto.
It doesn’t loop.
