Forwarding limit reached
Why senders get a 452 refusal from your domain, what the monthly allowance counts, when it starts again and how to raise it.
Updated 31 October 2026
A sender tells you Mailyoto refused their email to your alias with one of these responses:
452 4.2.2 This recipient has used this month's forwarding allowance.
452 4.2.2 This recipient has hit the daily inbound quota. Try again tomorrow.
The email has no entry in your Logs.
Why it happens#
Each plan forwards a set number of emails a month. Once your account reaches that number, Mailyoto refuses new email until the allowance starts again. It refuses the email before logging it. No entry appears.
| Plan | Forwarded emails a month |
|---|---|
| Free | 5,000 |
| Pro | 60,000 |
| Max | 180,000 |
The allowance counts per month from the day your plan renews, or on Free from the day of the month you signed up. It starts again on that day at 00:00 UTC.
One day also has a limit, which keeps a sudden flood from using up the whole month. That limit starts again at 00:00 UTC each day, and its refusal says to try again tomorrow.
What counts:
- Every email forwarded to a destination. An alias with 3 destinations uses 3 for each email it receives.
- A webhook destination counts like an email address.
- All your domains together. The allowance is per account, not per domain.
Mailyoto emails you before the month’s allowance runs out, if the month’s pace would use it up early. It emails again once the allowance or the day’s limit runs out.
What the sender’s server does#
452 is a temporary refusal. The sender’s server keeps the email and tries again later, usually for a few days. If a later attempt comes after the limit starts again, or after you upgrade, the email arrives as usual.
A server that gives up first sends its own bounce to the sender.
Fix it#
- Open Usage in the sidebar. The Forwarded card shows how many emails your account forwarded in the current period and what is left of the allowance.
- Open each domain’s Usage and logs tab to see which one forwards the most.
- If one alias receives far more than you expect, look at what it receives in Logs. A mailing list or an automated sender can use up the allowance. Remove destinations you don’t need, or block the sender.
- If your real email needs more, move to a plan with a larger allowance. See upgrade your plan.
A larger allowance applies as soon as the plan changes.
Check that it’s fixed#
New email to your aliases has entries in Logs again, with the status Delivered.
The sending allowance is separate#
Email you send through SMTP or the API, and replies from your alias, have their own monthly allowance: 5,000 on Pro and 15,000 on Max. Once it is used, Mailyoto refuses further sends with this response until the allowance starts again:
550 5.7.0 This account has used this month's sending allowance.
Sending also has a limit for one day. Past it, sends get this response until 00:00 UTC:
452 4.2.2 This account has no sending left for today. Send again tomorrow.
The Free plan can’t send. Every send from a Free account gets the second response.
See plan limits for every limit.
