What happens after a downgrade

See which domains, aliases and rules switch off when your plan gets smaller, how long their email waits, and how to switch them back on.

Updated 29 October 2026

When your account has more than its new plan includes, Mailyoto switches off the newest extras and holds their email for 5 days. Nothing is deleted.

Before you start

  • You moved to a smaller plan, or a paid plan ended and the account is now on Free.

What switches off#

A plan sets how many domains, aliases per domain and routing rules per domain you can have. After the change, Mailyoto keeps the oldest ones on, up to the new limits, and freezes the newest ones past them.

Aliases per domain15200600
Routing rules per domainnone618

On Free, every routing rule is frozen, since Free has none.

A frozen domain shows a Frozen pill on Domains. On a domain’s Forwarding tab, a notice says how many aliases are frozen.

Mailyoto also emails you. The subject is “Email to some of your addresses is on hold”, and the email says how many items switched off and until when their email waits.

What happens to their email#

For 5 days after an item is frozen, email to it waits on the sending server. That server gets this response and keeps the message queued:

450 4.2.1 Mail to <hello@lunavera.com> is on hold for now. Keep it queued; it goes through once the address is back on.

Switch the item back on within the 5 days, and the waiting email arrives.

After the 5 days, Mailyoto refuses the email, and the sender gets it back:

550 5.1.0 Mail to <hello@lunavera.com> is not deliverable at this domain. Confirm the address with the recipient before resending.

Switch them back on#

Make room under the plan’s limits in either of 2 ways:

  1. Choose a bigger plan: open Billing, then See plans. See upgrade your plan.
  2. Delete domains, aliases or rules you no longer need, until the rest fit.

Frozen items switch back on by themselves, oldest first, as soon as there is room.

What else changes on Free#

  • Free can’t send. SMTP, the send API and replies from your aliases stop working.
  • Logs are kept for 14 days at most. A setting above 14 days goes down to 14, and a lower one stays. See log settings.
  • You can’t add a webhook destination or resend a failed email on Free.

Your domains’ DNS records and the aliases that stay on keep working as before.

A sender says their email is on hold

The address they wrote to is frozen. Switch it back on within 5 days of the freeze, and their queued email arrives without them doing anything.

An alias stays frozen after you deleted others

Mailyoto switches aliases back on oldest first. The newest ones wait longest. Delete more aliases on that domain, or choose a plan with more aliases per domain.
